The Maryville College Scots men’s basketball team fell in the final challenge of the 2011 Maryville College Classic to No. 13 Emory University Eagles by the score of 75-61 on Sunday evening.
The Scots kept pace with Emory into the half. MC hit 34 percent from the floor while the Eagles pulled away with a 33-25 lead due to 60 percent free-throw shooting and the ability to connect on three treys.
Emory exploded with a 57 percent shooting effort in the second half to preserve the 14 point victory.
Emory guard Austin Claunch led all scorers with a 24 point effort. Claunch deposited 8-of-17 shots and a pair of three-pointers to finish with a game-high 24 points. The Eagles (4-0) were supported offensively by Jake Davis and Justin Resnick who scored 15 and 11 points respectively. Resnick paced all rebounders with eight during the key South Region challenge.
Maryville (3-2) was paced by guard Milton Stanley. Stanley tossed in 18 points on 8-of-18 shooting. He also led the Scots, along with Donald Rucker, with a team-high six rebounds. Wes Lambert added eight points while Joey Bodewig finished with eight points. The Scots managed only a 2-for-12 team effort from beyond the arc.
