Medic Regional Blood Center and Second Harvest Food Bank are teaming up through the month of December with a “Double Your Good Deed” theme to create a unique giving opportunity for donors.
All blood donors will have the opportunity to opt out of a t-shirt and a donation equal to nine meals will be made to Second Harvest.
“It’s very easy for donors to help to area non-profits at one time,” said Christi Fightmaster, Medic’s spokesperson. “Donors can decline their t-shirt and Medic will donate the monetary value of that shirt to Second Harvest.”
Medic has two fixed sites: 1601 Ailor Avenue in downtown Knoxville or 11000 Kingston Pike in Farragut.
The next community drive will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 6 in the Seymour High School gym.
This event comes at a time when donations are at their lowest for both organizations.
"We are so grateful to Medic and its staff for this great collaboration. This is such a novel idea and will truly help two organizations that need support all year long" said Elaine Streno with Second Harvest Food Bank.
Medic Regional Blood Center has eight daily blood donation sites – two fixed and six mobile. All mobile donation locations can be found at www.medicblood.org.
Donors must be at least 17 years old (16 years old weighing 120 pounds with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds and have positive identification.
