Justin Thompson worked for Lamborghini, but through a life changing experience, discovered a profession that he is passionate about and is in the process of making a career change.
Thompson is from Marysville, Ohio. During Thanksgiving of 2005, he and his family were in Tennessee when his dad became ill and had to be taken by flight paramedics back to Ohio.
After being exposed to paramedics and the medical profession through his father’s situation, Thompson became interested in the profession.
“After he passed, I decided to join the fire department and get involved in the emergency medical side of things,” Thompson said.
He joined the Seymour Volunteer Fire Department in May of 2009. During his first year as a member of the department, Thompson received his first responder certification and received the Firefighter of the Year honor.
Since then, he attended Walter’s State and received his EMT-IV certification.
“My next step is paramedic, then I’m going to bridge to nursing,” he said.
At the department election in November, he was elected as a lieutenant for 2012.
Thompson said it is not about the money, he just wants to do something that he enjoys.
“I enjoy helping people,” he said. “I enjoy the adrenaline rush.”
