Keith McCroskey is in his eighth year with the Seymour Volunteer Fire Department and enjoys his time with the department and the impact on his career choice.
McCroskey was born in Bristol, Tenn. and moved to Seymour in 1997. He wanted to study mechanical engineering or architecture, but his neighbor saved him before he went down either of those routes.
Randall Moore, also an SVFD firefighter, was living next to McCroskey at that time and introduced him to the fire service.
Deciding he wanted to pursue firefighting as a profession, McCroskey waited four years to get a part-time job with the Sevierville Fire Department.
In August of 2010, he was able to get on full time with Rural Metro.
“I like helping the community,” he said about his work in the fire service.
In addition to helping the public, McCroskey likes the people he has met in the department.
“There are a lot of good guys up here,” he said.
Aside from fighting fire, Keith McCroskey enjoys the challenge of working vehicle accidents and trauma calls.
