One portion of a major renovation project at Sevierville City Park has been completed.
The City of Sevierville Department of Parks and Recreation announced that the new multi-purpose outdoor court is open and ready for use.
The court consists of a regulation size basketball court and a futsal court, the first such court in Sevier County.
Futsal is five-on-five soccer that is played on a basketball court. The sports origins can be traced back to Uruguay in 1930.
The multi-purpose court is part of a larger renovation project that also includes rebuilding eight tennis courts in the park. The tennis court renovation is expected to be completed in the near future.
The multi-purpose court was jointly funded by the City and a State of Tennessee Local Parks and Recreation Fund public recreation facility grant.
