Seymour High School hosted its 5th Annual Forensics Tournament last weekend.
Held on Oct. 29, Seymour hosted 10 participating schools including Science Hill, Dobyns Bennet, Morristown West High School, Jefferson County, Maryville High School, Soddy Daisy, Walker Valley High, Hardin Valley High and Cookeville High School.
The schools performed in events including public speaking, acting and a public forum debate.
Seymour, which has the only Forensics/Debate team in Sevier County, did not compete in last weekend’s tournament because they hosted the event. It was the only event the school will host this year.
Morristown West placed first in debate and Dobyns Bennet won the overall sweepstakes award.
Seymour drama and debate team members meet every week to practice for competitions and performances.
“Students research and compile literature for cases and performance pieces,” said SHS teacher Danielle Smallwood.
Currently the drama class is preparing for their performance of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” on Nov. 17, 18, and 19 at Seymour High School.
