Volunteers laced up their running shoes last Saturday to raise money for the Sevier County Special Olympics.
Sevier County Special Olympics helps provide financial assistance to students with disabilities to participate in local and state competitions, relying on donations and fundraisers to help these athletes achieve their dream.
Seymour provided the setting for an early morning 5K walk/run sponsored by local businesses that helped raise more than $2,000.
Sevier County Special Olympics Coach Kristy Smith indicated that 44 runners participated in the event, with more than 60 registered.
“It went really well,” Smith said. “The rain cleared out and everyone seemed to have a great time.”
The 1st Place Male winner was Jonathan Gorenflo, 2nd Place was Chris Cope and 3rd was Riley Vance. The 1st Place Female winner was Sydney Wolfenbarger, 2nd Place was Lexi Vance and 3rd was Amy Holder.
