On Oct. 29, Seymour High School Special Olympics will hold a 5K Run/Walk to raise funds for athletes across Sevier County.
Sevier County Special Olympics helps provide financial assistance to students with disabilities to participate in local and state competitions, helping to take some of the burden off the parents as the athletes compete at state events in Chattanooga and national games in states such as Nebraska. To do this, they need assistance from the community.
“We fully rely on donations and fundraisers to provide our athletes opportunities they normally wouldn’t have,” said Sevier County Special Olympics Coach Kristy Smith.
The goal for this Saturday’s fundraiser is to raise more then $2,000. Organizers are asking for t-shirt sponsors or donations of water, snacks, door prizes and more. Businesses that participate will have their logos printed on event shirts.
“People can also make monetary donations,” Smith said. “But we really want more people to sign up to walk or run.”
Registration begins at 6:15 a.m. at Seymour High School, with the event kicking off at 7:30 a.m. Registration costs $30. For more information, contact Kristy Smith at (865) 577-7040 or kristysmith@sevier.org.
