Autumn is here and that means it's time for cooler weather, fall colors, and Seymour First Baptist Church's giant fall rummage sale for missions.
The big sale is set for Oct. 15 in the gym and parking lot of First Baptist Church located at 11621 Chapman Highway. The gym doors swing open to thousands of bargains at 8 a. m. sharp.
Donations of large items such as furniture, appliances, lawn mowers, bicycles, farm equipment, boats, auto, SUV, and truck vehicles, etc., can be dropped off at the church any time or by calling the church office at 577-1954 for pick up. Tax credit forms are available if needed.
Smaller rummage items such as dishes, books, good clean clothes (fall and winter preferred), DVDs, CDs, toys, stuffed animals, bedding, drapes, jewelry, small appliances, electronics, pictures, original art, Christmas items, knick- knacks, etc., can be dropped off at the church on or after Tuesday, October 11. For pick up call the church office at 577-1954.
Proceeds from the sale help Seymour First Baptist Church fund its many local, state, national, and international mission efforts. Recent local projects have included the building of handicap ramps, home repairs, and lawn work. After last summer's devastating tornadoes struck the Chatanooga area, disaster relief teams from the church made several trips to Apeson, Tennessee, to aid in repairing tornado damage.
Mission teams have gone to Mallory, West Virginia, to help the Big Springs Baptist Church in converting an old school into a youth center. Last winter a large group from Seymour First Baptist Church aided the church there in a food outreach ministry.
First Baptist Church is involved in Sevier County Baptist Association's partnership with West Africa and recently sent Pastor Bruce Yates there to work with Nigerian churches. A construction team from the church recently went to Montana to aid its partner church, Hysham Baptist Church, in renovating its building.
A continuing mission support project is the aluminum can recycling bin located on the lower Sevierville side of the church parking lot.
Seymour First Baptist Church appreciates the community's loyal support through the years of its rummage and auction sales, its recycling bin, and other projects to support missions. The donated items, purchases, and hours of donated labor have greatly enhanced the church's ministry.
