In an important IMAC matchup with Cherokee, the Seymour volleyball team brought home a district win.
The Lady Eagles started quick winning the first set 25-16.
“We jumped out to a 16-8 lead after one complete rotation and never looked back in the first set,” said Seymour Volleyball Coach Ed Irvin.
In the second set, again the Lady Eagles took an early lead 10-2 but became complacent and seemed to put their energy level into neutral. The result was a 16-16 tie.
“We decided to sit back and let Cherokee make the mistakes and we just stood around watching them play,” Irvin said. “We became spectators.”
Cherokee added 11 points during that span from two servers to tie it. Nicole Warner of Seymour added 8 serving to close out the match 25-16.
In the third set the Lady Eagles started quickly again jumping out to a 13-6 early set lead. This time there was no standing around and Seymour put the match away by a score of 25-11.
Both Kasey Norman and Nicole Warner finished with 15 points. Norman had 9 aces, 11 spikes, 6 kills and 14 digs while Warner had 5 aces and 10 digs.
The Lady Eagles are now 17-7 overall and 4-1 in the IMAC.
Things get tougher next week as Seymour faces Morristown East and then Morristown West away.
“That will give us a good idea of where we fit into the conference picture,” Irvin said.
