An early morning fire destroyed a home on Hendron Chapel Road despite the best efforts of the Seymour Volunteer Fire Department.
SVFD Assistant Chief Kevin Nunn said that the call came in around 2 a.m. Monday morning.  Although firefighters would spend the next four hours battling the blaze, the home’s fate was a foregone conclusion.
“We were taking defensive actions only,” he said.
Despite a quick arrival time, Nunn indicated the fire was fully involved when SVFD arrived.
The department expended between 20,000 and 30,000 gallons of water preventing the flames from spreading further.  The home was a total loss.
No one was injured in the fire, though Nunn indicated that there were conflicting reports as to whether any one was home at the time, or had gotten out before the structure was destroyed.
The Sevier County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
