Debbie Gibson has taught for almost 30 years, and has been impacting the lives of children at Boyd’s Creek Elementary School since it opened its doors.
Gibson has taught 7th and 8th grade, but is now teaching 1st grade. Making the switch to teaching younger students was not as difficult as she thought it might be. She is just as good of a communicator with the younger children.
When asked if she had a favorite grade to teach, she said she enjoyed whichever grade she was teaching at the time the most.
“I enjoy 1st grade because when they start the year they are all at different levels. By the end of the year they have learned a lot and can do much more,” said Gibson.
Mrs. Gibson takes an open, worldly approach when she teaches. She believes that everything should be linked to the world since we are impacted with worldly events all the time. The students do not focus on math and then put the books away to focus on another subject.
“When we are doing reading I may be relating it to science as well,” said Gibson.
She enjoys the challenge she gets from teaching the children, as well as watching their progress and seeing what they can accomplish.
