A Sevierville man has been arrested in connection with a rape of a local teenager in her home.
Sevier County Sheriff Ron Seals said that on Saturday evening officers were dispatched to William Holt. Blvd. in reference to a past occurred rape.
Officers arrived and took a statement from a 15-year-old girl who said she had met Daniel T. Sargent, 21, who lives in the neighborhood and on Aug. 18 he crawled into her bedroom window and raped her.
Detectives were called to the scene where evidence was collected and other witnesses were interviewed.
Officers then went to a nearby residence on Patricia Holt Dr. where they encountered Sargent pulling up in a vehicle; he then exited the vehicle and ran on foot.
After a foot chase officers took him into custody without incident and he was brought to the Sheriff’s Office where he gave an incriminating statement to Detectives during an interview.
Sargent has been charged with one count of Aggravated Rape and Aggravated Burglary. He is being held pending a bond hearing before a judge.
A Sept. 26 hearing date has been set on the charges in General Sessions Court.
The investigation is continuing and more charges may be placed at its conclusion.
Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Johnny Bohanan at (865) 428-1899.
