The 2nd Annual Hal Canfield Memorial Mile road race is set to take place on September 5, Labor Day, at 8:30 am.  The course is a point to point route on Cherokee Boulevard in beautiful Sequoyah Hills.
The race is being held in honor of one of the KTC Founders, the late Hal Canfield, and all proceeds go to the Hal Canfield Endowment Scholarship Fund.  The Hal Canfield Scholarship Fund provides college tuition assistance for one local high school student each year.  In both 2010 and 2011, the recipients of the award were former Knoxville Track Club Youth Athletics Program participants.  The 2011 recipient was Genevieve  Kuppritz who graduated from William Blount High School and will be attending Furman University in the fall.
Cost for early registration is $20 through Aug. 26.  KTC Members receive a $5 discount during early registration.  Late and Race Day registration is $25.  Any participants choosing the no t-shirt option will receive $5 off anytime.  Participants can go to www.ktc.org for details on registration.
Runners and walkers of all fitness levels are encouraged to attend this race.  In 2010, the youngest participant was 3 years old while the oldest participant was 91 years old.  Teams are also welcome and encouraged to participate in this event and can register using the downloadable entry form that can be found at www.ktc.org.
The route begins at the far west end of Cherokee Boulevard and finishes just past the middle parking lot entrance.  Pre-race activities will be held in the field adjacent to the west end parking lot and post-race activities will be held in the field adjacent to the middle parking lot.  Light refreshments will be served post race.  Participants will run in waves to be determined prior to race day.  The eastbound lane of Cherokee Boulevard will be closed at 8:20 am and will reopen at 9:10 am.
