Two local girls were recently honored with the Girl Scout Silver Award.
Emily Hutchins and Savannah Hebert, from Troop 20779 in Seymour, earned the award after completing specific activities, earning cadette badges and volunteering locally.
Hutchins and Herbert, along with their troop, volunteered at two non-profit community organizations, Mane Support and CROSS ministries, to help better the lives of others in the community.
The troop volunteered more than 130 hours and donated 4,330 food items to CROSS Ministries, a group that provides food for needy families in the Seymour area.
The cadettes also volunteered more than 80 hours at Mane Support, a nonprofit organization that provides equine-assisted grief counseling.
In addition to their volunteer work, the girls also girl’s received their Child Care, Cookies and Dough, Dollars and Sense, Leadership, Understanding Yourself and Others, and Exploring the Net badges.
