The Seymour Volunteer Fire Department will celebrate 40 years of Community Service with a festival next weekend.
SVFD has served the Tri-County area since 1971, is a completely volunteer agency and was started by citizens and business owners.
During the past 40 years, they have added vehicle rescue/extrication and emergency medical response to their services, along with public education and smoke alarm installations.
The department has always been solely supported through donations and they currently run between four and five calls per day.
“This celebration is the department’s way to thank everyone for their support throughout the years,” said Corky McCarter, Assistant Chief for SVFD. “We hope to continue serving the community for many years to come.”
Everyone is invited to attend the festival at Seymour First Baptist Church, 11621 Chapman Hwy., from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. July 30.
There will be activities and live demonstrations throughout the day, including inflatable slides, equipment displays and refreshments (from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.)
SafeKids and Sevier County Sheriff’s Office will sponsor a car seat check point from 10 a.m. to noon during the event.
All agencies that respond with Seymour Volunteer Fire Department have been invited to bring apparatuses and this will be a great opportunity for the community to learn about their Fire Service throughout the area.
