Johnson University was awarded membership at Level V to offer the Ph.D. in Leadership Studies at the June 2011 meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
The Ph.D. in Leadership Studies is sponsored by Johnson University on behalf of the Center for Global Studies (CGS), an educational endeavor of eight graduate institutions including: Cincinnati Christian University, Emmanuel Christian Seminary, Hope International University, Johnson University, Kentucky Christian University, Lincoln Christian University, Milligan College, and TCM International. The mission of the CGS is to prepare qualified Christian nationals around the world for higher education and other organizational leadership within their cultural contexts.
The Ph.D. program is an online, research based, interdisciplinary degree that seeks to facilitate the leadership abilities of Christian men and women. Students in this program seek enhanced credentials or leadership positions within academic or ministry/mission focused organizations. This degree is designed for working adults.
Classes are seven weeks, 100 percent online, and are taught in small, flexible cohorts (12-15 students) using asynchronous learning methods. Sixty total credit units are required in three categories: Coursework in leadership, ethics, and research; Elective units in one of three tracks: Educational Leadership, Organizational Leadership, or Theology of Leadership; and Proposal and Dissertation.
Johnson’s participation in the Center for Global Studies and approval to offer an online Ph.D. in Leader-ship Studies represents our continued commitment to develop and seek accreditation for programs in professional and academic areas that prepare students for leadership in congregations, educational institutions, and other service vocations.
