The Knoxville Utility Board’s project to upgrade Seymour’s existing transmission lines is entering a new phase.
Work began last year on Old Sevierville Pike replacing older wooden utility poles with upgraded versions to increase their reliability and cut back on maintenance necessities.  They new lines also connected Seymour’s power grid to the Shooks Gap substation.  That stage of the upgrade is complete.
KUB crews are now upgrading transmission lines on Chapman Highway.  According to KUB officials, the next objective will be linking Shooks Gap with the Hendron’s Chapel substation.
The construction has caused minor traffic changes along Chapman Hwy. with the right lane closed at various times.
Some parts of the plan for the next phase are still in the design stage and with the recent string of severe storms causing delays, KUB wasn’t able to provide a set timetable for the when the work will be concluded.
