Last week was the first “People’s Choice Awards” at the Seymour Cruise-In sponsored by the Herald.
Three of the cruisers’ favorite rides were awarded with trophies and the number-one pick was given a family four-pack of 411 Motor Speedway tickets.
Last Saturday’s winners were Curt and Stacy Thomas’ 1956 Chevrolet, Ray Brown’s 1931 Model A and Maurice Putnam’s 1947 Ford.
“Everyone really enjoyed the trophies and everything,” said Steve Rico, one of the show’s organizers.
The awards will be held on the second Saturday of each month throughout the show’s season, which normally ends sometime in October.
Seymour Cruise-In is a local car show held in the parking lots of Seymour Pharmacy and Wendy’s in the Macon Crossing Shopping Center.
The shows are held every Saturday at 5 p.m. and feature local rides along with classic rock spun by a disc jockey, as well as deals and promotions offered from local business.
Another new addition to the cruise will be a monthly swap meet where cruise-goers can bring car parts, or basically anything else they want to sell or exchange.
“We thought it would be a good way to help people make a little extra money,” Rico said.
The first swap meet will be held July 23 and will be held on the fourth Thursday of each month through the regular season. There is no charge to sell items.
“If we get to charging people for something like that then we’re not doing our jobs,” Rico said.
He added that while the cruise normally averages over 100 cars a week, the numbers have been slightly less recently because of the weather.
“It has just been so hot,” Rico said, “but we’ll pick back up soon.”
Seymour Cruise-In is a family-friendly event and organizers invite residents with all makes and models of cars to attend.
