Pets Without Parents Shelter had a great turn out for their grand opening on June 11, adopting out 14 dogs and two cats.
The non-profit group opened the no-kill shelter with the goal of humanely finding homes for many abandoned canines and felines. While the community support has been strong so far, they still need as much help as possible.
Shelter director Margie Bryant said they are still receiving 10 to 15 calls a day from people wanting to leave their pets at the shelter and there have also been pets simply left outside the building.
There will be a breakfast fundraiser this Saturday at Applebee’s in Governor’s Crossing from 8 to 10 a.m. with all you can eat for $5. All proceeds go directly to the shelter.
Pets Without Parents Shelter is located at 1408 Old Newport Highway, formerly Dr. Lee’s Veterinary Clinic.
