A high speed chase claimed the life of 19-year-old Joshua Weaver on Sunday when he lost control of his motorcycle.
According to a Sevier County Sheriff’s deputy familiar with the case, three motorcycles were initially pursued by Pigeon Forge police officers for speeding, but were lost when they split up.
One of the drivers was Weaver, driving a 2006 Suzuki. He was later spotted making an illegal left turn by a Sevierville police officer.  The officer pursued, but briefly lost contact with Weaver on Gist Creek.
Weaver apparently lost control on a sharp turn while doing in excess of 100 miles per hour, taking him over a hill and snapping a tree in half.  He died at the scene.
It is unknown at this time what factors motivated him to run.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol is handling the case, but the investigating trooper could not be reached for comment.
