Eryk Watson, Maryville College’s second-leading scorer in the program’s history, has signed a professional contract with U.M.F. Tindastoll in Saudarkrokur, Iceland. The 2011 MC J.D. Davis award winner and D3hoops.com All-American will begin play in September for Coach Borce Ilievski Sansa.
Maryville’s scoring sensation simply dominated the hoop over his past four seasons as a Scot. This Georgian native finished his career as the No.2 All-Time scorer in the history of Maryville College Basketball. His powerful drives and sweet perimeter touch allowed him to accumulate 1,943 career points while averaging 18 points a game during his 107 games played in the Orange and Garnet.
This 2007 Great South Freshman of the Year displayed signs of great things to come with his 12.7 points and 3.1 rebounds per game during his first collegiate season.
As a sophomore, he paced the Scots in scoring averaging over 19 points a game while earning All-South accolades from the NABC and D3Hoops for the first time.
Eryk joined the Scots 1,000 point club on December 30th during his junior campaign after being named a Pre-Season All-American by D3Hoops. He repeated as an All-Region performer by tossing in 17 points a game.
This 2010 Sporting News Pre-Season All-American earned All-Great South honors on four occasions while being named the GSAC Tournament MVP in each of the league tournament finals that he participated in.
Eryk finished his senior year ranked No.7 nationally with his 24.1 points per game scoring average. He was 8th in the nation with a 47% three-point percentage while ranking 6th in the country with his 3.6 treys per game. He was honored with a pair of 1st Team All-Region selections before becoming Coach Lambert’s fourth All-American.
The son of Terri McKay, Eryk deposited 214 three-pointers during his career connecting at an amazing 41% efficiency. His 627 points this season alone ranks him 4th in the MC season record books. He set a new Maryville standard for made three-pointers with a school record 94 treys on the season.
His Scots over the past four seasons have won over 78% of all of their challenges and 96% of all their conference games. Watson helped the Scots achieve an 83-25 record over the past four seasons while earning three trips to the NCAA post-season.
Watson will trade in his orange and garnet jersey for a new maroon, white, and blue uniform in representing U.M.F Tindastoll in a 12 team league in search for their first Powerade Cup.
