A Jeep Wrangler flipped onto its side while traveling in the 1500 block of River Divide Rd. Tuesday afternoon.
The one-vehicle accident occurred at about 2:42 p.m. and Sevier County Deputy Ryan Cleaveland was the first to respond to the scene at about 3 p.m.
Cleaveland said that the driver, a 22-year-old female Seymour resident, was driving toward the curve when she hit her breaks in order to not strike the guard rail. The driver then over corrected to the left, which made her vehicle go into a sideways skid.
“She then struck two large rocks on the side of the road and that is what propelled her vehicle to roll over one-and-a-half times and land on its left side,” Cleaveland said.
The driver, who was the only person in the vehicle at the time, was no injured during the accident, was wearing her seatbelt and was not issued any citation.
“I wasn’t going to add insult to injury there,” Cleaveland said about not issuing any citations. “She was pretty upset because she had only had the vehicle for about a month.”
He added that the driver told him she was driving slowly, but he said that drivers often times need to adjust their speed to below the posted speed limit depending on the circumstances.
“The road was wet here, there is a curve and it is a downhill grade, all of that comes into play here,” he said. “I can’t tell you the number of wrecks I have worked in that area.
“River Divide is notorious for crashes in this particular location.”
