Two Sevier County students, including a soon-to-be King’s Academy graduate, recently received the Tennessee Sheriff’s Association Scholarship.
David Wayne Lamon, a senior at The King’s Academy in Seymour, and Pigeon Forge High School senior Bethany “Ashlynn” Trotter were the two students in Sevier County chosen to receive the scholarship.
The academic scholarship is awarded annually by the Tennessee Sheriffs’ Association.
The award is competitive in nature with applicants competing statewide. The state is divided into four divisions and Sevier County is assigned to Division 1 along with 24 other counties.
To be considered for the scholarship applicants must be the child or ward of a certified sheriff’s department officer.
Applicants also must have an ACT composite score of 15 or a SAT combined verbal and math score of at least 700, must be enrolled in at least 12 semester hours at an accredited college or university in Tennessee, and are also required to write an essay about their education goals.
This fall Lamon will attend Maryville College and Trotter will attend Middle Tennessee University.
Recipients are chosen as a result of a majority decision of the Tennessee Sheriffs’ Association Board of Directors.
