One day after falling to the Berry College Viking in Rome, Georgia, the Maryville College Scots diamondmen returned to Scotland Yard to earn a strong 5-3 victory on ”Senior Day”.
Each of the Scots 13 seniors contributed toward MC’s 24th victory of the season.
Berry led 1-0 in the fifth inning before senior catcher Josh Anderson singled up the middle. A single and a walk later set the stage for senior first baseman Kyle Cyprysiak to clear the bases with a two-out double. An A.J. Johnson single sent Cyprysiak across the plate and MC led 4-1 after five complete innings.
MC added an insurance run in the seventh when senior shortstop Myles Cordell increased his team and league RBI total with a single scoring Mikee Moore.
Berry added a pair of runs in the 8th inning, but MC’s relief unit consisting of seniors Johnny Lingo, Logan Brady, Josh McKenzie, Clint Helton, and Mark Morales each helped close the door and preserve Robert Brown’s 5th win on the hill this season. Brown went five innings and allowed only three hits. Senior closer Mark Morales earned his nationally ranked 9th save of the season.
Offensively, MC had a nine hit attack paced by senior Myles Cordell. The shortstop went 3-for-4 while Cyprysiak finished 2-for3 with a run scored and three key RBI’s.
Berry falls to 22-14 on the season.
