A Kodak teacher has been arrested and charged with child abuse after allegedly refusing to allow a student to use the bathroom.
Second grade teacher Theresa Ward of Northview Primary is accused of forcing a student to sit in class for hours without changing clothes after he soiled himself during recess.  The incident occurred on April 4 and Ward was suspended without pay the following day after the boy’s mother reported her.
The school system wouldn’t comment on the case, but released a statement through their attorney, Chris W. McCarty, saying Ward was suspended “for conduct unbecoming a member of the teaching profession and neglect of duty.”
The boy reportedly asked to come inside early to use the bathroom, but Ward would not allow it.  The boy’s mother has said that he was taunted by other students because of the smell.  Ward was arrested on April 8 for child abuse.
According to their statement, “The school system views Ms. Ward's suspension as an internal matter and will handle it accordingly.”
