Preliminary design work continues on the planned Chapman Highway turn lane in Seymour.
The project, which is aimed at widening a 1.18 mile section of Chapman Hwy. between Macon Lane and Hwy. 411, is currently only funded through the initial engineering phase, according to the Tennessee Department of Transportation.
Paul Walker, whose business, Walker’s Automotive, would be affected by the roadwork, indicated that work was set to start once the new traffic light at the Boyd’s Creek and Old Sevierville Pike intersection was finished.
TDOT confirmed that the intersection held a higher priority, indicating that it “met the criteria to receive federal funds due to the safety issues that the intersection was experiencing.”
Walker expressed a keen interest in seeing the project completed.
“I think it would be great for anyone on this end of Chapman Highway,” he said.
TDOT will perform a preliminary field review of the design plans on April 27.
