Splits with South-Doyle

Three for four isn’t bad. The Seymour boys and girls tennis team had a successful 2 days of tennis as they swept Cherokee both boys and girls 9-0 on Thursday. The next day they went to South-Doyle and split as the girls won 8-1 but the boys lost 1-8.
Against Cherokee in the individuals, outstanding player Jake Gann won 8-2.
He was followed by teammate Drew Smith with an 8-2 win and Mark Danby with a shutout 8-0.
Evan Troutman, Cory Combs and Matt Green won by default.
In the doubles matches, the team of Smith and Troutman won 8-0 while Combs/Green and Gann/Danby won by default.
In the girls’ individual matches the participation was much better as there were no defaults.
Team standout Ty Wallen won 8-0 while her counterpart Andrea Markowitz also won 8-1.
Karla Carrodeguas won 8-0 and Alexis Pierce won 8-3.
Savanna Goodin won 8-0 while Lauren Troutman won 8-0.
In the doubles matches the two strong individuals Wallen/Markowitz combined to make an outstanding team with an 8-0 shutout win.
Green/Fleming also shut their opponent out 8-0.
The two shutout wins were followed by wins from Pierce/Carrodeguas 8-1 and Goodin/Summers 8-6.
The following day against South-Doyle the girls kept it going but the boys faltered.
The girls were led by Markowitz in the individual matches with an 8-1 win.
She was followed by Carrodeguas with an 8-0 shutout, Pierce with an 8-4 win, Goodin an 8-2 win and Troutman and Summers with 8-3 wins.
Wallen had a rare loss 1-8. In the doubles match the strong team of Wallen/Markowitz won 8-3.
They were followed by wins from Pierce/Carrodeguas 8-6, Goodin/Troutman 8-2 and Green/Fleming 8-2.
The Seymour tennis team seems to be progressing well as the season moves along making the prospects of a successful post season quite favorable.
“The girls team is playing well and gaining confidence,” Head coach Kristy Wallen said. “The boys team is playing with more confidence but they are struggling because of their inexperience.”
