A Sevier County couple has been arrested and charged after allegedly holding a woman against her will overnight in a Seymour home.
Angelia Christina Payne, 40, of 1410 Hawk Lane in Seymour, and her boyfriend, William Daugherty, 39, of 225 Kyker Ferry Road in Sevierville, have been charged with kidnapping and aggravated assault as result of an alleged incident in Seymour over the weekend.
At about 2 p.m. Sunday a woman wearing only her underwear ran into Floyd’s Market on Chapman Hwy. and told the clerk that she had been tied up and put into the trunk of a vehicle.
The clerk got the description of the vehicle and called 911.
When Sheriff’s Deputies arrived on the scene the woman, identified as Marsha Long of Johnson City,  told them she had been held against her will at a home on Hawk Lane in Seymour by a couple who she knew from her employment with a carnival based out of Georgia.
Long said that she came from Georgia a few days prior to the incident and was staying with Payne, who was a co-worker, at her home on Hawk Lane.
Long said that on Saturday night she was tied to a bar railing at Payne’s residence by Daugherty and was kept tied up throughout the night.
She added that the couple threatened to kill her over a dispute that she had with Daugherty.
On Sunday Payne and Daugherty placed Long in the trunk of a car and left the home. It was in the trunk that she was able to loosen the restraints around her hands.
When the car stopped at Floyd’s Market, Long used the emergency trunk release to escape and get help.
Long was transported by ambulance to Leconte Medical Center where she was treated for minor injuries she sustained during the incident.
Payne and Daugherty were taken into custody without incident at the home on Hawk Lane Sunday evening.
The couple was transported to Sevier County Jail where Payne is being held on a $250,000 bond and Daugherty, who had an outstanding Circuit Court capias for non-support, is being held on a $350,000 bond.
A June 10 hearing date has been set in Sevier County General Sessions Court.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division at (865) 428-1899.
