When Vicki Sise flew to New York March 23 to compete in the Mets National Anthem search, she wasn’t expecting to win. That’s why she was surprised when later she was called into her manager’s office at Delta Airlines.
“I thought I was in trouble,” she said.
It was just the opposite. She burst into tears when told she would be singing on Aug. 6 at Citi Field in New York.
A passionate singer her entire life, Sise went into the competition just happy for the opportunity to give it her all.
It was a rainy day for the finals. Sise went alone, while many of the other competitors had friends or family with them. She fell in love with the voice of a young boy named Christopher while listening to him audition and bonded with his family. His grandmother felt Sise was a shoe in to win.
She wasn’t so sure herself, but nevertheless left with a natural high that lasted even as she was stuck in Atlanta during the flight home.
“It was very exciting,” she said.
Sise will sing during “Delta Night” when the Mets play the Atlanta Braves, Aug. 6 at 7:10 pm.
