It doesn’t seem to matter what the sport is when Seymour and Sevier County meet it’s always a battle.  Recently the tennis match between the Eagles and the Smoky Bears was no different as the Lady Eagles defeated the Bearettes 5-4 and the Smoky Bears edged out eh Seymour boys 2-1.
Ty Wallen led the Seymour girls with a win over Sydney Finchum 8-0 while Lady Eagles Karla Carrodegruas defeated Averell Harmage 8-1 and Alexis Pierce won over Grace Huskey 8-1.
The Lady Bearettes took 3 matches as Katie Story won over Lauren Troutman 8-4; Kelsey Wypych took Savannah Summers 8-0 and Jacqueline Ohman defeated Breanna Green 8-3.
Doubles competition decided the entire match as the Lady Eagles took 2 out of 3.
They were led by the Ty Wallen/Karla Carrodeguas team with a shutout over Finchum/Story 8-0 while the Alexis Pierce/Lauren team defeated Huskey/Wypych 8-5.
Breanna Green and Savannah Summers lost the only team competition to Harnage/Ohman 8-5.
On the boys’ side, the Eagle’s Jake Gann defeated Sevier County’s J. P. Caylor by the narrow margin of 9-7.  That was the only individual win for Seymour.
The Eagle’s only win in doubles came from the Sam Thomas/Drew Smith team over Moore/Grayson 8-6.
Seymour Head Tennis Coach Kristy Wallen talked about the match, “Our boys lost but played with more confidence than they have in past matches.  Our girls won and played well.”
The next match for the Seymour Tennis Team is at Gatlinburg Pittman on April 4th and the first home match of the year will be on Tuesday April 12th.
