Keep Sevier Beautiful has announced that it will host a 5K Run and Walk on April 16 to raise awareness about the organization and its mission.
Elizabeth Reed, Executive Director for Keep Sevier Beautiful, said, “we are excited about this event and want to encourage everyone to come out and participate whether you’re a runner or just want to enjoy a nice walk that finishes along the beautiful Pigeon Forge Greenway.”
Runners and walkers of all ages may participate in the Inaugural “Preserving the Mountain in Me 5K Run and Walk.” The race begins at 7:30 a.m. at the City of Pigeon Forge Parking Lot off Teaster Lane. Runners and walkers will start the race in the City of Pigeon Forge Parking Lot and proceed southbound on Teaster Lane to Old Mill Road. From there, participants will run to Butler Street and onto the picturesque Pigeon Forge Greenway which will take them back to the finish line at the City Parking Lot.
All participants will have an opportunity to win incredible door prizes – gift certificates from local businesses, restaurants and area attractions. In addition, each participant will receive t-shirts and nylon backpacks filled with coupons and offers from our sponsors if registered by April 10. Awards will be given for: Top 3 males and females overall and the top 3 males and females in each age division: 19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and above.
The entry fee is $20 if post-marked by April 10. Late and race day registration will be accepted for $25. Race day registration will begin at 6 a.m. at the Race Tent in the parking lot and will conclude at 7:15 a.m.
“Preserving the Mountain in Me 5K Run and Walk” coincides with the Great American Cleanup (GAC), the nation’s largest community improvement program through Keep America Beautiful. GAC runs from March 1 through May 31. K
eep Sevier Beautiful will also be collecting used shoes at all of their events held during the Great American Cleanup for the non-profit organization, Souls4Soles. Souls4Soles, based out of Nashville, distributes shoes to the needy throughout the world and has a goal to collect one million pairs of shoes throughout the state of Tennessee in 2011.
