This weekend the Seymour Eagletrons will be among 50 teams to compete the FIRST Robotics Competition in Knoxville.
The regional robotics competition (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology’s) is a not-for-profit organization founded by Dean Kamen to inspire young people’s interest and participation in science and technology.
This year’s challenge is “Logo Motion” where teams built robots to place triangle, square, and circle pieces on poles of varying heights during a two minute competition.
Each team had six weeks to complete their robots, which include a mini-bot, in preparation of the competition.
The Eagletrons, which is made up of about 15 students and several mentors, worked seven days a week on the project to meet the six week deadline.
In addition to participating in the competition, Seymour’s team will also be featured in a documentary with Soledad O’Brien on CNN later this spring.
The competition, which is free to the public, will be held at the Knoxville Convention Center from March 31 to April 2.
The team’s faculty advisor, Diane Humphrey said the best time to see the Seymour High School Eagletrons will be Saturday morning at about 9 a.m. and if the team makes the finals they will compete on Saturday afternoon sometime between 1 and 4 p.m.
