A Seymour woman was assaulted and her purse was stolen at a Seymour grocery store.
At approximately 11 a.m. Friday morning Patsy Atchley, 71, was getting out of her car in the Kroger’s parking lot when she was approached by a white man who threw her to the ground and then took her purse, causing her to be dragged on the pavement.
Sheriff’s Deputies arrived on the scene within approximately three minutes and found Atchley lying on the ground.
An ambulance was dispatched and she was transported to Ft. Sanders Regional Hospital in Knoxville where she was treated for minor bruises and abrasions.
Atchley and witnesses told officers that the man was in his 20s, had a medium build and height, and wore a dark jacket, a yellow trimmed had and Addidas sneakers.
Officers said that the perpetrator lost one of his shoes in the parking lot during the attack.
The man left the parking lot in a dark colored, four-door, older model Saturn and headed toward Knox County.
Management at the Seymour Kroger declined to comment on the incident.
Anyone with information about the crime is asked to contact the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division at 428-1899.
