After losing to Morristown West on Thursday the Eagles both boys and girls came back on Friday to defeat Cocke County 9-0, 9-0.
There was one bright spot in the MW match as Seymour’s Jake Gann won over his opponent by a score of 9-7.
In the Cocke County individual matches Cory Combs (boys) won 8-0. All other boys won by default due to lack of Cocke County players.
On the girls side it was the same score but all matches were played out. Individual winners for the Seymour girls were as follows: Ty Wallen 8-0, Karla Carrodeguas 8-0, Alexia Pierce 8-4, Savanna Goodin 8-0, Lauren Troutman 8-2, Savannah and Summers 8-1.
In double results; Wallen/Carrodeguas won 8-0, Pierce/Goodin won 8-0, Troutman/Shelby Caprini won 8-0.
In an exhibition match Kennedy Fleming/Breanna Green won 8-1.
Head Coach Kristy Wallen talked about the two matches, “I was disappointed with the (Morristown) West defeat. Our kids played timid. It wasn’t a good opener for our season.”
She was pleased, however, with the quick turnaround against Cocke County the next day.
“I was happy with the girls win over Cocke County,” she said. “It was a good confidence boost for the team. Unfortunately we couldn’t get more match practice for the boys’ team.”
Seymour’s next competition is against Sevier County away.
