The Lady Eagle softball team opened their season with a 10-0 win over IMAC rival Morristown West.
Hitting was strong but pitching was even stronger as Seymour sophomore Carly Lewis struck out 10 Lady Trojans in a shortened 6 inning game facing 19 batters giving up only 2 hits.
How do you follow that performance? You hit a grand slam home run.  Lewis can do it all.
Another outstanding performer was Chaney Graham driving in 3 RBI’s and a sacrifice fly in the 6th which ended the game by giving Seymour a 10-0 lead.  The ‘mercy rule’ was in effect therefore the game ended.
When a team gets a 10 run lead the ‘mercy rule’ goes into effect.
Hitting was one area Seymour Coach Dana Carter wanted to improve on this season.  That question was addressed in a big way as the Lady Eagles scored 10 runs.
“We worked hard all winter and emphasized attacking the ball,” Carter said. “I knew the pitching was there.  My pitching staff is very strong so that was never in question.
“Overall we’re very, very pleased.  Our goal this year has been to set the standard right off the bat, and run – rule the first game is great.”
The Seymour Softball team will face Knox Central, Cherokee and Sevier County in a three game home stretch.
