NEW CONCORD, OHIO- The Muskingum University baseball team lost 8-2 against Maryville College on Sunday afternoon in the final game of the Muskingum/Marietta Invitational at Mose Morehead Field.
With the loss, Muskingum slips to 4-8 overall.
Maryville grabbed the early momentum after touching up Muskingum starting pitcher Michael Congrove for six runs (five earned) on 10 hits to grab a 6-1 lead through the first five innings. The setback drops Congrove's record to 1-1. The Scots scored one in the first, three in the third, two in the fifth and one each in the sixth and ninth innings to complete the scoring. Maryville ended the game with 15 hits.
The Muskies, who mustered seven hits on the day, were led by senior Tyler Hardcastle who went 2-for-4 with a solo home run. The long ball was the first for the squad this season. Sophomore Nick Raymond also added an RBI and freshman Colten Maxwell went 2-for-4 with a double and run scored.
Muskingum scored its first run in the fourth on Hardcastle's home run and added its final tally in the seventh on Raymond's infield hit.
Maryville starter Johnny Lingo tossed six innings of four-hit ball with one run to improve to 5-0. Mikee Moore went 4-for-5 with three runs and a double to help pace the Scot attack. Myles Cordell registered a 2-for-4 day with two doubles, two RBIs and three runs, while Kyle Cyprysiak notched three RBIs to aid the Maryville win.
