The Seymour Volunteer Fire Department was one of five Sevier County fire departments that responded to a fire Monday that destroyed a cabin.
Firefighters were called just before noon and were still on the scene several hours later. Firefighters from Sevier County, Wears Valley, Seymour, and Pigeon Forge assisted the Walden’s Creek Volunteer Fire Department in halting the blaze.
SVFD Chief Ted Esch said that Seymour dispatched two trucks to assist after being paged on a mutual aid call. The trucks were used to shuttle water to the cabin’s remote location.
Firefighters from Walden’s Creek responded first and were able to prevent brush fires from reaching two nearby cabins and a propane tank, according to Jay Breeden, the Sevier County Sheriff’s Department fire investigator.
On Tuesday, he indicated that the remains were still too hot to begin an internal investigation into the fire’s origin.
Although the owners were in town, no one was inside the Avon Circle home when the fire started. The building was a complete loss.
