The Walters State Ag Club Winter 2011 Horse Series concludes with the exciting Speed March 18-19 at the Great Smoky Mountains Expo Center in White Pine.
Admission for spectators is $5 per day with children younger than 12 admitted free.
Friday night’s events are sanctioned by the National Barrel Horse Association. The gates open at 1:30 p.m. and stalls will be available at that time. Exhibition barrel runs begin at 5:45 p.m. with Class 2 beginning at approximately 9 p.m. This carries an entry fee of $4. The Youth 3-D round carries a $15 entry fee; the masters, a $20 fee; and the Open 4-D half-second runs have a $25 entry fee. Cash prizes will be awarded with 70 percent of the entry fees plus $1000 given as prizes. NBHA rules will be used to determine division placings.
Gates open at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday with exhibition barrel runs beginning at 10:30 a.m. with an entry fee of $4. Competition begins at 3 p.m. Classes include Pee Wee Barrels (ages 12 and under); Youth #-D barrels (ages 12-18); 3-D ½ second barrels; exhibition pole races; youth poles (age 18 and under) open 2-D poles; and 4-D poles. Saturday’s races     will also offer a 70 percent payback with added money in several classes. NBHA rules will be used to determine the division placings.
Stalls are priced at $30 for both days or $20 for Saturday. Bedding will be for sale on site. All transactions are cash only.
Over the past 11 years, Winter Horse Series events have raised over $50,000 in scholarship funds.
