All-Conference Honors Given

LaGrange, GA — The Great South Athletic Conference announced its 2010-11 women’s basketball All-Conference awards earlier today with Katie Covington of LaGrange College being named the GSAC Player of the Year. The league’s Freshman of the Year is also a Panther as Alex Wilson claimed the top newcomer spot while the leader of the top-seeded Maryville College Lady Scots, Darrin Travillian, is the GSAC Coach of the Year.
Just a sophomore at LaGrange, Covington claims Player of the Year honors after being named the Freshman of the Year during the 2009-10 season under Head Coach Mark Isenhour. Covington is the league’s top scorer averaging right at 17 points per game on the nation’s top scoring offense as the Panthers are tallying exactly 84 points per contest.
Also coming from LaGrange is the conference Freshman of the Year in Alex Wilson who did her damage from beyond the three-point arc as one of the league’s most feared deep shooting threats. Wilson paced the GSAC in three-point field goal percentage and was second in three-point field goals made in just her debut season for LaGrange.
The league’s Coach of the Year is Darrin Travillian who led his Lady Scots at Maryville to a number one seed for the GSAC championship tournament by virtue of a 14-0 undefeated conference record. The former Maryville assistant turned head coach also guided his Scots to a regional ranking from the NCAA selection committee after finishing the regular season at 21-4 overall.
