The Sevier County School System is all caught up on its inclement weather days, but administration is airing on the side of caution.
Students in the district attended school on Friday and Monday, days which were originally slated as “Mid-Winter Break”, to make up for the amount of inclement weather days students had off in December and January.
During the two month period students missed 15 days of school due to weather, the district is only allotted 13 per school year.
The lack of a Mid-Winter Break corrected the discrepancy and the district is caught up, but Debra Cline, Director of Curriculum & Instruction for Sevier County Schools, said the system is still planning for additional days off.
“We know winter is not over,” she said, “and in the past we’ve also missed days even for flooding in the spring.”
To prepare for additional school days that may be cancelled due to weather, students will attend school March 14, which was originally scheduled as in in-service day.
“That puts us ahead another day in case we have to miss more,” Cline added.
If any more scheduled school days are missed, the board will review how and when to make those days up.
