The Maryville College softball program dropped to 1-5 on the early season following a pair of losses on the final day of the 2011 Emory University Invitational in Atlanta on Sunday.
The Scots fell to Peace College 6-4 in an early morning challenge before being run-ruled by tournament host Emory University 11-1 in five innings.
MC battled back from a 4-1 deficit with three runs in the bottom of the fifth to even the score 4-4 against Peace. The North Carolina school added a pair of runs in the sixth to go ahead for the final margin of victory.
Chastity Smith and Chelsi Hooper each stroked a pair of hits in Maryville’s eight hit attack. Junior right-hander Sarah Reeder suffered the loss on the mound scattering 12 hits in seven innings of work. Reeder struck out four while all six runs were earned.
MC committed three errors and the Emory Eagles took advantage of an 11 hit attack to defeat the Scots 11-1. Leah Kelley finished the game 3-for-3 at the plate while Andrea Brew and Jessica McCarter each added a pair of hits for the Orange and Garnet.
Emory touched McCarter for the loss after they posted six earned runs in 2.1 innings of work off the left-hander.
