A one-out single to right-field off the bat of third baseman Blaine Reese drove in a pair of runs in the Scots second inning and the Maryville College pitching staff promptly recorded their second consecutive shutout to defeat DePauw University 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at MC’s Scotland Yard.
MC posted four of their six total hits off DePauw starter Mike Peterson in the second inning to push Kyle Cyprysiak and Blake Gentry across the plate.
Johnny Lingo posted his first win of the season for the Scots after tossing four innings of two-hit ball.
The right-hander induced five groundouts while MC’s defense was stellar behind him. Head Coach Daniel Washburn did not hesitate to go to his bullpen and the combination of Nick Bowers, Wes Dobson, Clint Helton, and Mark Morales shut the door on the potent Tigers offense.
Morales earned his second save of the weekend with a strong 1-2-3 9th inning.
