Three members of the Sevier County Civil Air Patrol TN-093 attended the Search and Rescue Exercise (SAREX) recently in Morristown TN.
There were several other CAP units in attendance and part of the mission was to use a radio directional beacon finder to locate a “black box” device that would be located in the tail section of an aircraft that might have crashed in the woods.
The SAREX was part of the annual training the Civil Air Patrol provides to volunteers to better enable them to perform rescue missions when called upon by Local, State and National entities.
The Sevier County Civil Air Patrol squadron is currently seeking members of all ages and gender to join the ranks from cadet to senior members.
The unit is planning on being ready by spring for Search and Rescue Training missions as members of the Emergency Services Division. Senior members and Cadets can expect to go through an Orientation process that will include introductory education in Military Customs and Courtesies, Aerospace, Personal Leadership and Development, and other topics designed to prepare them for Civil Air Patrol Programs.
