



The Sevier County 4-H Public Speaking Contest was held recently at the Sevier County Courthouse.
First, second and third place winners were named at each grade level and included:
Fourth grade; 1st place – Lindsey Hedrick, Homeschool; 2nd place – Brennan Allen, Sevierville Intermediate; 3rd place - Dani Netherland, Sevierville Intermediate.
Fifth grade; 1st place – Rahul Bhojwani, Pi Beta Phi; 2nd place – Alexandria Ramsey, Sevierville Intermediate; 3rd place – Hailey Carmichael, Sevierville Intermediate.
Sixth grade; 1st place – Christopher Whaley, Pi Beta Phi; 2nd place – Heather McReynolds, Seymour Middle; 3rd place – Abigail Moore, Seymour Middle.
Seventh grade; 1st place – Rachel Jenkins, Pigeon Forge Middle; 2nd place – Zach Hayes, Catlettsburg; 3rd place – Angel Alred, Catlettsburg.
Eighth grade; 1st place –Jalynn Gamble, Catlettsburg; 2nd place – Hannah Dyer, Catlettsburg; 3rd place – Kara Keys, Catlettsburg.
Ninth grade; 1st place – Alexis Hall, Gatlinburg Pittman High School; 2nd place – Scarlet Fox, Sevier County High School.
Tenth grade; 1st place – Lauren Jenkins, Pigeon Forge High School.
Eleventh grade: 1st place – Heather Hatcher, Pigeon Forge High School.
Twelfth grade: 1st place – Christina Lulich, Gatlinburg Pittman High School; 2nd place – Courtney Rolen, Gatlinburg Pittman High School
This year 3,048 Sevier County 4-H Members presented speeches at the local level, while 45 participated at the county level. The Sevierville Sunrise Rotary Club provided cash awards for the top speakers, along with ribbons for all participants. Sunrise Rotarians and local 4-H volunteer leaders served as judges.
First place winners in grades 4 – 8, will represent Sevier County in the Big Nine Sub Regional Speech Contest in Knoxville, February 17, while first place winners in grades 9-12 will represent Sevier County in the Eastern Region Speech Contest at the University of Tennessee on February 5.
The public speaking contest is one of many 4-H opportunities available to all 4th – 12th grade young people in Sevier County. For information about 4-H opportunities, call 453-3695.
