Medic Regional Blood Center is 'sweetening the pot' for donors heading into the New Year's holiday in hopes of increasing the area's blood supply.
Donors who stop by Kroger/Seymour on December 29 or Wal-mart/Sevierville on December 30 both from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. to give blood will be awarded a free movie ticket good for any Regal Cinema.
"The ticket offer is good for those who donate a pint of blood; unfortunately, we cannot offer this item to those who come out but are deferred," states Christi Fightmaster, Medic's director of public relations.  The free ticket has no expiration date or restrictions.
Blood donations decline during the holiday season and couple that with the inclement weather that's affected the area and the local blood supply is running low.
"We've had to cancel several drives this month.  Medic currently needs all blood types and is critically low on O-Negative, the universal blood type," explains Fightmaster.
Donors must be at least 17 years of age, weigh 110 pounds or more (16 year-olds weighing 120 pounds can donate but MUST have parental consent) and all donors must have positive identification.
As always, blood donors will qualify for Medic's Individual Blood Coverage Plan. Under this plan, one blood donation per year exempts the donor and his or her IRS dependents from paying blood supplier processing fees at any hospital in the country if a transfusion is needed.
A donor can also designate this benefit as replacement or substitution coverage for someone else.
