Three Sevier County men, including a man affiliated with the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office, have been charged in connection with a burglary and theft.
Jonathan Galyon, a civilian non-sworn corrections officer for the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office, has been arrested along with two other men for a crime that was committed earlier this week.
On Monday afternoon the sheriff’s office received a call that three men were trespassing on a property on Byrd’s Crossing Road and were attempting to burglarize an outbuilding.
Before officers arrived the men fled on an ATV that they brought with them to the residence. A short time later a witness spotted the ATV being hauled away in a white Dodge truck being driven by Gaylon.
The two other men witnessed trespassing on the residence have been identified as Spencer Scott Hatcher, 22 of Alpine Drive, and Michael David Land, 33 of South Blvd., and were taken into custody at Webb’s Market on Newport Hwy. on Monday.
Officers later made contact with Gaylon, 22 of Muddy Hollow Rd., and found that he had in his possession a Suzuki ATV and weed eater that were later determined to be stolen from a home on Layman Drive earlier that day.
After officers gathered additional information, Gaylon, Hatcher and Land were charged with burglary in connection with the theft of the ATV and weed eater from the Layman Drive burglary.
Gaylon has since been suspended without pay from the sheriff’s office pending an investigation.
All three men were arraigned before a magistrate and hater and Galyon were released on bond. Land is being held until a hearing in General Sessions Court.
Anyone with information in the case is asked to call Det. James Breeden at 423-1899.
