As residents prepare to travel over the Thanksgiving holiday, it is important for them to remember safety tips to keep their home safe.
With a usual increase in burglaries and thefts during the holiday season, it helps to keep caution.
The Sevierville Police Department has a few recommendations for those who will not be home over the long weekend.
Leave some lights on inside your home as well as outside so it does not appear as if you are gone. Have your neighbors or family check your mail and pick up your newspaper. A full mailbox and newspapers on your doorstep are sure signs that no one is home. Keep your valuables out of sight as well.
For those who are not traveling, they can be a good neighbor by reporting any suspicious behavior.
