The Maryville College Lady Scots used a 62 percent shooting barrage to establish a 53-28 halftime lead and cruised to a 100-54 victory over Covenant College on Saturday afternoon in MC’s Boydson Baird Gymnasium.
Alexis Rouvelas and Whitney Mitchell each paced MC with 19 points. Rouvelas was 9-for-10 from the field while Mitchell finished 6-for-8 in the paint. Tara Heyboer added a strong effort with 15 points and six rebounds. Janell Menard added 11 points to the Scots 43-75 (57%) team shooting effort. C.J. Dake led Maryville on the boards with a game-high eight rebounds.
The Scots defense forced 35 Covenant turnovers while out rebounding their opponent 41-29.
Covenant (0-2) was led by Margaret Cross’ 20 point effort. Jessie Blankenship added 11 points and eight rebounds for the Georgian Scots.
With Head Coach Darrin Travillian's first career coaching victory under his belt, Maryville (1-1) will take to the road next weekend in Fayetteville, North Carolina. MC will challenge Methodist University and Virginia Wesleyan in the 2010 Methodist University Tournament.
