A two-vehicle accident stopped traffic on Chapman Hwy. at about 9:30 a.m. Monday.
The head-on collision took place at Ford Hill on Chapman Hwy. and involved a four-door Chrysler Lumina and a Dodge Caravan minivan.
It is unclear how many occupants were in the minivan at the time, a baby girl was the only passenger in the Chrysler. She was strapped into her car seat and escaped injury. The driver of the Lumina also escaped serious injury.
The driver of the minivan sustained injuries serious enough to be transported to the hospital.
“I was coming over the hill on Chapman Hwy. at Ford Hill, heading toward Sevierville when I noticed this black van heading toward me up the hill,” said the driver of the Lumina. “They had with their turn signal on coming over into my lane, which was the (slow lane).”
“I thought since there were no other cars around I’d go around them, and when I did they jerked back trying to go back into their lane.
“That is when they struck me.”
Traffic in all four lanes of Chapman Hwy. were backed up for nearly two hours while the scene was cleared.
Sevier County Sheriff’s Deputies, Seymour Volunteer Fire Department and the Sevier County Ambulance Service responded to the scene.
